Frank Cottrell Boyce, writer of the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, has said that landing a cameo from the Queen was ?easy? compared to other challenges the creative team faced.
The 24 Hour Party People screenwriter spoke of the remarkable ability of the technical team to realize the most outlandish ideas that he, creative director Danny Boyle and the rest of the creative team could come up with.

Speaking to the Guardian, Cottrell Boyce said: ?Some were easy, sending rings into space is just cameras on balloons and the cycling doves are straightforward.
?But the chimneys? Yes, I still don?t know how they pulled that one off. The Queen was easy.?
He said the real problem for the team came from getting clearance for the hundreds of snippets of poetry and songs used throughout the show, noting: ?Most poets and artists were quite cool about letting us use their work, but it costs a lot of time and effort. Every single track and every single quotation needed to be cleared.

?I thought Mary Poppins would be the end of us, I thought no way they?ll get permission to use Mary Poppins!?
The 52-year-old paid tribute to the 10,000 volunteers who helped put on the ?27m ($42.5m) spectacle, saying: ?[They] redefined the nation for me.
?We?re told people need to be paid great sums to get results, but those who are motivated by money cock up. Because they?re crap. People who are motivated by things like love, family, friendship and humanity are the ones who have something to offer.?
The show was watched by an estimated 27m in the UK, and achieved a record number of viewers in the US for a non-US Opening Ceremony.
