A Discussion Regarding Internet Marketing | Linux Business Week

An increasing amount of businesses are allocating greater percentages of their promotional budgets to internet marketing. There are many reasons for this. They include the vast number of venues by which someone can promote products online, the high cost of direct mail, the number of people that could be reached via the internet, the overall cost effectiveness of promoting items online, the explosion of social networking, and the increased use of mobile devices by the general population. Each of these aspects will be reviewed further below.

To start, there are many ways to reach below via the internet. One of the most common ones is for a firm to have its own website. It would serve a company well to employ another entity to run the site and to maximize the use of search engine optimization, or SEO, throughout the website. A company can have the best looking website around, but unless it uses the right, targeted keywords to reach customers and make sales, it will not be effective. In addition to websites, firms can purchase online ads on targeted sites and market their products and services on social networking sites.

The high cost of direct mail is yet another reason why firms are increasingly promoting their products online. Between escalating postal rates, high print and mail costs, increased design and paper costs, and more, it is becoming cost prohibitive to promote too much of a business?s resources to direct mail. Direct mail used to be the cornerstone of many business to business marketing programs in years past, but this is increasingly no longer the case.

The large amount of individuals who could be reached via the internet is yet another reason why companies are becoming increasingly reliant on online promotions. Firms could reach people all throughout the day from any continent via a computer. This aspect has completely transformed who companies do business.

Another reason to promote items online is that it is cost effective. This is demonstrated by the earlier point made about how expensive it has become to send out direct mail. While start up costs for a website can be expensive, it is relatively inexpensive to maintain a site once it is in motion, and a member of the company can continually update the content on it to keep everything fresh. On top of this, it is free for firms to start their own pages on social network sites.

The explosion of social networking is yet another reason why internet marketing has taken off as it has in the past few years. These sites have millions of users across the world, and they allow for very targeted marketing. Companies can target people and other firms based on very precise demographic variables.

Last but not least, the general public?s increased use of mobile devices is a reason for companies using internet promotions more in recent years. More and more people, for example, own phones which allow them to access the net any time of day, and it thus makes sense for companies to use more online promotions.

In conclusion, internet marketing has become increasingly prominent in recent years for many reasons. These include the many ways to reach people online, the cost effectiveness of online promotions, the reach allowed by the internet, and the fact that more and more individuals use mobile devices with internet access on them.
