The construction industry has had its fair share of ups and downs in the last few decades. As a 13-year-veteran in the industry, the blow the industry took in the last three years came as a total shock. Just two years ago, our company had business lined up until the year 2020. Things changed quite rapidly when planned projects started vanishing.
In the last 18 months, construction workers have fallen victim to unemployment in record numbers. Hundreds of my peers have been effected. The years of sacrifice these employees have awarded to the company meant nothing when this industry plummeted; some having been with the company more than 20 years. The layoffs came as a surprise and nobody knew when or who would be after that. It was painful to watch people stressing about their future. Each one knew full well they could be joining a very long unemployment line themselves.
It was clear that the company?s allegiance was not to the employee, but to their own pocket book.
The most unfortunate part of this economic downfall was the millions of individuals whose lives were being destroyed. Witnessing these adverse situations unfold before my eyes helped me to re-examine my emergency awareness; it made me become conscious that no one can guarantee my financial security, except me. Despite the consequences of the situation with the financial system, I needed to be both mentally and monetarily prepared.
I appreciate my position with the company I work for is temporary at best. I know if someone new comes in with a new idea or a better strategy, I could be transferred, demoted, or worse, join the rest of the unemployed out there. When, and if that day comes, there can only be two possibilities: take the news with a smile if I?m prepared, or spend the next 12 months accusing everyone else, except myself, for not acting soon enough. I believe unless we take immediate action to better ourselves and our situations, times past will definitely repeat itself. We had better be ready to handle the outcome.
Considering all sorts of opportunities as a backup plan; direct advertising, or multi- level marketing, also recognized as MLM, makes the most sense to me. It has very low startup costs, is literally easy to manage, there are no particular skills that are required, and it is home based. If profitable, the multi-level marketing industry can be a lucrative business; which can be an avenue to help someone become financially independent, which is actual job security. While MLM is a real business opportunity, one must not underestimate the need to invest time and money in order for the project to become profitable.
In these very tough economic times, and given the benefits of multi-level marketing, there is no excuse for anyone not to get involved in network marketing. Don?t take my word for it; take it from one who knows:
?My experience in real estate has taught me that the greatest opportunities emerge when economic times are at their worst. That?s why, after the real estate crash of the ?90s, I came back stronger than ever. You can get back your financial independence and diversify your income now, instead of simply waiting for things to turn around.? ~ Donald Trump
